Yours Truly by Abby Jimenez is So Sweet and Sincere

I’m trialling something this summer season, given my tolerance for reading dips in the heat. I like a good, easy romance here and there, and they don’t take much thinking to get immersed in the story, so I’ve added a few more romance to my December reading to test out my theory, starting with Yours Truly. This is my first Abby Jimenez, but I do already have Say You’ll Remember Me waiting on my shelf to be read. So, what did I think of the book?

Dr. Briana Ortiz’s life is seriously flatlining. Her divorce is just about finalised, her brother’s running out of time to find a kidney donor, and that promotion she wants? Oh, that’s probably going to the new man-doctor who’s already registering eighty-friggin’-seven on Briana’s “pain in my ass” scale. But just when all systems are set to hate, Dr. Jacob Maddox completely flips the game…by sending Briana a letter. And it’s a really good letter. Like the kind that proves that Jacob isn’t actually Satan. Worse, he might be this fantastically funny and subversively likeable guy who’s terrible at first impressions. Because suddenly he and Bri are exchanging letters, sharing lunch dates in her “sob closet,” and discussing the merits of freakishly tiny horses. But when Jacob decides to give Briana the best gift imaginable—a kidney for her brother—she wonders just how she can resist this quietly sexy new doctor…especially when he calls in a favour she can’t refuse.

Now, I will acknowledge that Yours Truly is the second book in the Part of Your World series, the first being Part of Your World. I didn’t know this until getting the blurb for this review, but in all honesty, I am happy to have started here. While Alexis is an interesting character, I feel that story would have likely made me delay reading Yours Truly. This is a romance that has some wonderful plot points, some interesting detail, and a lot of twists and complications to jumble things up. It isn’t exactly what I was expecting from Abby Jimenez given the hype I have seen for her books on social media, but even then I feel this romance is a little flat for me. I liked it, but I don’t think it will be one of the ones I look back on once I’m in the midst of 2026 reads.

I love the character representation, especially with Jacob. He is such a lovely character and he really made the romance sing for me. I like Briana, and I adore these two together, but the final conflict and layers near the end of the novel had me dial back my liking for her. I like that I had this reaction though, because at the end of the day it made the read a little more intense for me given my emotions started getting influenced through my turning feelings.

I can see how a lot of romance reading would eat this up, and I did feel like it was an easy read to get through, so I absolutely recommend it. Perhaps start with Part of Your World to get a real sense of the story world and characters before hopping into Yours Truly, but also you don’t need to if this romance is the one you want to start with. I feel there wasn’t too many spoilers for the first book from what I read.
