I’m not sure if it is officially NZ Book Month, but I sure will be preaching NZ authors, books, stories, and voices this month to support New Zealand literature. There are so many books I have read over the last few months in preparation for this event, so keep your eyes peeled for my NZ book reviews and discussions in March!
I won’t be going all out like I do for Spooktober as I have another reading project planned for the near future and I know its all about the quality not quantity. There are some incredible NZ authors I plan to introduce you to throughout March and many stories to show you. From NZ classics to contemporary lit, fantasy to crime fiction, us Kiwis write a lot and we write in many different genres and languages.
My discussion posts will be posted Saturday NZST to further delve into the reasons why I decided to support and promote NZ books this month – I won’t spoil it by telling you know, but if you’re interested in learning more about the importance of representation, community, and experiences then note Saturdays down as annafromuni check-in days. I will also be gassing up some NZ authors and showcasing a few of the incredible, aspirational, monumental authors we have been lucky enough to call ours. From Katherine Mansfield to Keri Hulme, Witi Ihimaera to Airana Ngawera, and so many more, you are bound to find more recommendations for your tbr and a fair few names for your perusing later in the year.
So kia ora and haere mai to Aotearoa New Zealand Book Month, sit back, and enjoy the good reads and great discussions to be had. If there is one thing I would ask of you, it’s to pick up a book written by a New Zealander this month. That’s all I ask! You’d be surprised the variety you have to choose from and the content you get. By the end o the month, I will have a whole recs list for you to check out and click back into when you’re looking for something from the bottom of the Pacific.
