I mentioned at the beginning of the year that I had a lot of books on my bookshelf that I hadn’t read yet or wanted to reread, and I donned these as my physical TBR. Six months later, what progress have I made?
Pile 1: The Rereads
I have made a dent in this pile as I’m rereading the YA fantasy on my shelves to see if I still want to keep them. I admit, the dent isn’t as big as I’d hoped, as my library requests have taken precedence, and the want to read YA fantasy hasn’t been there for me these last few months. Out of 28, I have reread four and decided to rehome three others, so I’ve dealt with 7/28. That number will be increasing by the end of the month as I tackle the Six of Crows duology and The Hunger Games trilogy, both of which I will certainly be holding onto.
I know that the beginning half of the year has been light on the reading, and I had pictured that my rereads list would be down to the last few standalones by now. At the end of the day, I can still get them read by the end of the year, the order of library TBR and physical TBR has just switched places.
Pile 2: The New Reads
This pile has changed a bit since the beginning of the year in terms of what is in the pile. By my new count, the list sits at fifteen or so, depending on if I like some books enough to read novellas linked to them. I haven’t got to this pile yet, though I have read many library TBRs that would count as new reads, so I’m not too fussed about it. Ideally, after my rereads, I would get to these books and decide to either keep them on my shelves, get them stored on other shelves because I don’t want them on my bookshelf if they’re someone else’s books or rehome them if they’re mine and I’m happy to let them go.
I knew these books would be the last pile on my list, but the good thing is there is a lot of variety in the titles. I have a few Kiwi adult fiction books with Jacqueline Bublitz’s Before You Knew My Name and Patricia Grace’s Cousins, some YA fantasy with a handful of Shadowhunter novellas, some adult fantasy with Deborah Harkness’s All Souls Trilogy and Patrick Rothfuss’s The Kingkiller Chronicles, Frank Herbert’s Dune series for a dose of sci-fi, The Complete Collection of Sherlock Holmes for that classic crime fiction fix, and a few classics to throw in with Charles Dickens’ A Tale of Two Cities.
Overall, I think I will tackle my rereads by the end of September ( I have a two-week semester break at the beginning of the month which will be more than enough time to get the last few books ticked off). My new reads should be easy to pick up between gaps for a nice breather between the same genres. In my yearly wrap-up, I shouldn’t see any remaining books in the piles, but we’ll see what happens.
