Half the year has flown by since I published my reading goals for 2024 post. I have a loose idea of the numbers, though I don’t go into any fancy percentages with genres or tropes, so let’s see where I’m at.
Books read so far: 20
Most read month: June
What genres have I read: NZ Fiction, YA Fantasy, Adult Crime Thriller, Adult Contemporary Fiction, Graphic Novels, Historical Fiction, Dark Academia, Science Fiction.
Favourite reads:

Welcome to the Hyunam-dong Bookstore by Hwang Boreum

Everyone and Everything by Nadine J. Cohen

Hannah and Huia by Charlotte Lobb
As goal #1 is not having a reading target, I feel a huge sense of freedom and relief when choosing my books and possibly dnfing a few titles here and there. I haven’t been fixated on reaching the mid-point of my reading goal and that has made the process of reading so much more enjoyable for me. I’m pleased to note that goal #2 read more New Zealand authors and New Zealand stories has been plodding along at a slow but steady rate. I think it’s fair to say I have diversified my reading list, so that’s goal #3 coming through strong.
While I could make some new goals for myself, I would rather continue with these three goals and use this as a midpoint to compare to the latter half of the year in late December. 2024 hasn’t ended, after all, so it’s only fair I stick it out and see how I can improve in my goals. Maybe I can extend my reading goals to posting goals, making sure there’s a diverse range of reviews published every month, or I can expand on the kinds of discussion posts I have created, like with my favourite character posts and my series reviews.
What I do know is my reading may pull back to the early month numbers as I return to uni and start my PhD – a post for another day, don’t worry. I’ll be sure to get my physical TBR rereads done by the end of the year as these books have been waiting a very long time (good news I’ve already finished two series rereads!).
How have your reading goals panned out so far? Do you have a favourite book out of all your read books this year? Let me know in the comments!
