India Holton’s The Secret Service of Tea and Treason is a Treat

India Hilton returns with her beloved characters and witty plotting, bringing forth a novel so genius and tantalising that you’ll be just like the agents fawning over Alice and Bixby. The Secret Service of Tea and Treason is a delight to read and a perfect way to spend an afternoon in bed.

I appreciate the pining and comical slow-burn aspect of this book. It’s reminiscent of The Wisteria Society of Lady Scoundrels with its relationship development, but it has its own direction and tensions within it. Alice and Bixby are a hilariously sweet and lethal duo and their interactions with each other and other characters make for some wonderful reading. The cameos of previous protagonists and partners wraps the story up nicely as we also get a very cute conclusion for them all.

I love the sheer ridiculousness of this world and how bizarre and eclectic characters bring so much life and pizazz into the stories. This novel, dealing with secret agents and undercover work, strides that thin line between brilliance and madness and I could not get enough of it. The Secret Service of Tea and Treason may be my favourite of the series but I think I’ll have to read them again to double check…with a glass of rose or tea nearby…and maybe some biscuits for good measure.

All jokes aside, I adore India Holton’s writing style and her unique perspective which makes reading this entire series so entertaining and easy to do. Amid a plethora of serious prose and sometimes heavy topics, it’s a breath of fresh air to pick up one of her books and just enjoy the reading. No need for any critical lenses or time to let things settle in your mind, you just laugh and squeal and flick through the pages so unpredictable that the chapter plot points won’t help you at all.

India Holton’s Dangerous Damsels series is worth the read and I highly recommend it to all. The Secret Service of Tea and Treason reminds me why comical novels are important in a tbr and in all stages of writing ones own book for it is these kinds of books that ground you and make you see the whole picture.
