Another Banger in A Perilous Perspective

Hooray for another Anna Lee Huber novel where the main investigation plot is propelled by Kiera’s skillset and expertise. I am all for the showcasing of a characters skill and relevance and A Perilous Perspective did not disappoint.

I have been waiting for an art forgery book and I’m so happy that when it finally arrived it came with so much more than a basic plot. The pending marriage between Charlotte and Rye reaching it’s own pressure points with the arrival of her father who has reservations in regards to their wedding, the tense relationship between Anderly and Bree which takes a startling turn, the feuding houses with a painful history and the murders that are bloodier and more gruesome than most we’ve had in the later half of the series. All these details come together in harmony to produce a gripping tale of betrayal, love, mystery and art.

Little baby Emma is a budding character who, currently, is a little useless given her age and reliance upon Kiera, but I am eagerly awaiting her involvement in the family and the plot. I can already see the interactions between her and her cousins and the emotional distraction the Gages will face instead of the physical distraction they currently are working with. With the separation and ability to attend longer hours of sleuthing, we’ll be able to get a great concoction of distractions and missed details that could prove to be disastrous for our investigative duo.

I don’t have a whole lot to say about this one as they lean a little too close to spoilers to be written. What I can say is this is my favourite book in the latter half of the series. Things have aligned so well and the elements of setting, description, pacing, tension, tone and internal conflict create a wonderful story to immerse oneself in. If there was ever a need to remember what good historical fiction murder mystery is about, here it is.
