• My Favourite Book Characters Part Three – The Tortured Souls

Tortured characters seem to be a soft spot for many readers, especially those who fall into the “I can fix them” category (we’ve all been there, haven’t we?). It shouldn’t be any surprise that I’ve compiled a short list of my favourite characters for this list. Ruby Daly, The Darkest Minds Ruby Daly is perhaps…

• My Royal Book Recommendations

On theme for this weekend (for those outside of the commonwealth it’s King’s Birthday Weekend), I have compiled a list of royal book recommendations for you all. Most are YA Fantasy but I have added a few historical fiction recs. Rest assured, these recs are not the same ones I mentioned in my Historical Fiction…

• My May 2024 Reading Summary

Overall mood: busy. A lot has kept me away from books this month, but I have a handful of reads under my belt. The range of books is broad, which I like, and the trickle of library books has finally stopped, meaning I can get to rereading books on my physical TBR list. That is…

• My Favourite Book Characters Part Two – The Simpletons

These characters aren’t magically inclined. They don’t have some otherworldly element to their existence that makes them incredible. There isn’t anything powering them that is supernatural or paranormal or anything that isn’t human. They are simple human beings with average lives, and they are amazing people. That’s what this category is about – simple people…

• How Bookstagram Has Changed Since 2018

I remember a time where the trending YA books could be counted on one hand, when the cult classics of The Hunger Games and The Infernal Devices were still talked about ardently, TOG was getting more promotion than ACOTAR, and when the kinds of posts that would come across my feed were inherently simpler –…

• My Favourite Book Characters Part One – The Fighters

To ease up on the heavy discussions, this week I’m going real simple. The bread and butter of a reader, no matter what genres you read, how many books you’ve tackled, or how many dnfs you’ve come across. So, without any further delays, let’s get into my favourite book characters. Please note, as I am…

• My April 2024 Reading Summary

Overall Mood: preoccupied. With a lot of house stuff happening this month and a few out of house things too I haven’t had the peaceful space to read. It’s not that tragic though because my reading bug was feeling a little sleepy still and I didn’t want to force myself to get a few more…

• The Pressure and Subsequent Burnout of Bookstagram

Continuing from last week’s discussion post, let’s dive into the pressures of up-keeping a bookish social media account, specifically a Bookstagram account. I don’t have experience with a BookTok (and I will not be getting one anytime soon) but I will be mentioning booktoks as a part of the pressures of maintaining your brand and…

• Bookstagram – A Blessing or A Curse?

Bookstagram, the bookish side of Instagram, has been around for a long time. With reading online spaces like AO3, fanfiction.net for example, and the Millennial Gen-Z social media sphere of X (Twitter), Pinterest, Tumblr, Facebook and Youtube, it wasn’t a surprise that when Instagram came around the book community would flock to the platform. Nowadays,…

• Have Libraries Gone Out of Fashion?

In a time of hyper consumerism, you would think that utilising libraries as a means of free reading would be taken up by more readers. After all, the number of books being published in a month is increasing well above the average reading speed of many and the financial strain these book hauls have can…
